From overwhelming excitement and loss of control to calmness, confidence and freedom.
When Korri arrived for Residential Training, his excitement around other dogs had become extremely difficult for his owners to manage. If he spotted a dog – even from 30 metres away – he could become so over-aroused that, if off lead, he would immediately sprint towards them regardless of attempts to recall him. His size and strength meant this had become a genuine safety concern on-lead too.
Korri was also unsure around unfamiliar people, particularly men. Having previously spent around two years living outside after his former home found him difficult to manage, he needed help learning to feel more comfortable and confident in everyday situations.
During his three-week Residential Training programme, the focus was on helping Korri become calmer around other dogs, think more clearly when excited and respond reliably to his handler. Alongside this, carefully introduced interactions, relationship building and play helped develop his confidence and trust around unfamiliar people.
As the programme progressed, Korri became calmer and responsive around other dogs, developed reliable recall and learned to enjoy greater freedom without becoming overwhelmed by his surroundings.
In the video, you’ll see the finished result towards the end – Korri working confidently with his owner.
For Korri and his family, that meant a happier, less stressful life together, with greater confidence, control and freedom to enjoy their walks anywhere.
